SkyScanner.com

I have always dreamt of showing up at the airport, pointing at the readerboard, and boarding a flight to some random place right on the spot.  Skyscanner.com is about as close to you can come and still pay decent fares and have a hope for packing the right clothes.  It’s free, and it’s one of the best ways to find a broad array of options – especially if, like me, you’ve got itchy feet and just want to go somewhere (anywhere), and are open to where, and when, that could be. Fun!

They also offer hotel and car searches, although I have not tried that yet.

  • Destinations: Search for a flight from your city to “Everywhere”, or a specific place
  • Dates:  Search for flights across an entire month, or this weekend, next week, or even for the next year.  Choose to display a calendar of dates, which can be switched by the month, to see quick options.

Here is what SkyScanner has to say about itself:

SkyScanner.com:

Skyscanner is a leading global travel search site, providing instant online comparisons for millions of flights, as well as car rental and hotels. Skyscanner’s flexible search options mean you can browse prices across an entire month, or even a year, allowing you to get the best deals. We also aim to provide inspiration on the cheapest destinations to visit; our unique “search everywhere” option will crunch billions of options in no time at all, allowing you to explore every travel possibility open to you and identify the cheapest countries to visit at any chosen time. You always book direct with the airline or travel agent, so you get the lowest price, with no extra fees added.

P.S. I am in no way affiliated with SkyScanner and am not officially endorsing them. I’ve just found them helpful in my own travels.
